FAQ
Answers Before You Ask.
The questions every project starts with — answered plainly. Anything not covered here is a message away.
Do you only build from scratch, or can you work with my existing WordPress, Squarespace, or other site?
Both, happily. HC Web Labs works across any hosting account or platform — WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, custom-coded, or anything else. If you've got an existing site that needs work, I'll meet it where it is. Builders are where many small businesses and solo entrepreneurs get their start — a path I support, not just tolerate: I'm at home in a cPanel and a CMS dashboard alike.
What if my site just needs a fix, not a redesign?
That's its own lightweight path — Debugging & Optimization. It's billed hourly at $40/hour ($60/hour for rush requests) with a one-hour minimum, and most single-issue fixes resolve in about 1–2 hours including diagnosis, the fix, and retesting before I call it done. An itemized estimate is available up front.
How long will my project take?
It depends on scope — and on how quickly materials, access, and feedback come back from you. A small, well-defined project can take from a couple of hours to a few days of active work; a standard multi-page site or redesign typically runs one to a few weeks; larger builds can take several weeks or more. Your Scope of Work includes a timeline estimate built around your specific project.
How does pricing work?
Builds and redesigns are quoted individually against their actual scope — no packages or tiers. Hourly work runs $40/hour ($60/hour rush). Fixed-fee projects bill in three milestones: 50% at kickoff, 25% at design approval, 25% at launch. Every number is in writing before anything starts, and invoices come through Wave (card, ACH, or PayPal — no account needed).
What happens after launch?
Every build includes a complimentary 7–14 day post-launch support window for minor tweaks and fixes from the original build. After that, support is billed at the standard hourly rate — or the $50/month webmaster plan covers weekly QA checks, security monitoring, thirty-day backups, and an hour of minor updates monthly.
Can I update the website myself?
If your project includes a content management system or editable content areas, yes — and I'm happy to walk you through it. Self-managing after handoff is always an option; you own all the files either way.
Do I really own everything?
Yes — and it's in the contract, not just the marketing. Your domain, hosting, files, and content live in your accounts from day one. HC Web Labs retains only its reusable internal tooling (frameworks and methods), licensed to you for continued use in your site.
What if I need to pause or cancel?
Life happens — just say so in writing. The MSA covers pauses, refunds, and cancellation details, including an option to step back for a while without abandoning the project. The monthly care plan cancels with thirty days' notice, no contract trap.
What if I need changes mid-project?
Changes are welcome — they just get their own written Change Order stating the added scope, fee impact, and timeline impact, signed by both of us before the work begins. That discipline is what keeps the original budget honest.
Do you handle accessibility compliance for government sites?
Yes. Every build conforms to WCAG 2.2 Level AA, and public-entity clients can receive a criterion-by-criterion Accessibility Conformance Report in the industry-standard format — directly relevant to the ADA Title II deadlines for state and local governments.
